Short paper presenting the author’s thoughts on activity analysis. Watson suggests two elements in the breakdown of activity – measurable elements and observable responses. Measurable elements are suggested as those evoking a physical response such as resistance, reach, repetition, intricacy; and those evoking a mental response such as complexity, abstraction and predictability. Observable responses are suggested as the quality of the product, fluency or time taken and emotional response. The author concludes that her suggested method of activity analysis requires further work to establish a scale of values and other formulas for successful completion.
