The restoration of activity participation leading to work participation.

By du Toit, V

This paper provides a useful overview of the levels of creative ability, its key concepts and treatment principles. Du Toit describes the development by herself and colleagues of a clearer definition of volition and activity participation and their subsequent development of principles for treatment and evaluation.   The importance of structuring activity through careful activity analysis and grading of demands as well as the impact of the environment and therapist approach is considered.  The description of a patient with psychosis is used to illustrate volition, activity participation, phases of creative ability and treatment approaches from Tone through to Competitive Participation.  Du Toit concludes that work participation will most effectively be restored by a programme aimed at the sequential development of Creative Ability.
