The psychometric properties of the Creative Participation Assessment

By Casteleijn, D and Smit, C

The Creative Participation Assessment (CPA) was developed by Van Der Reyden, in South Africa and was based upon the VdTMoCA. The lack of data of the psychometric properties prompted this research to measure the validity and reliability of the tool. A cross-section analytical survey was completed to investigate construct validity and a correlation analysis completed to ascertain criterion validity and internal consistency. A convenience sample of 52 patients with schizophrenia was included in the study, were assessed by two therapists, providing 312 responses. The CPA and the Volitional Questionnaire (MOHO) were used to assess motivation.

The results of the study demonstrated that the CPA was a valid and reliable assessment of motivation when administered to patients with schizophrenia. However, it was advised that OT’s using the CPA should have a sound understanding of the VdTMoCA before using the tool.
