The preparation of the physically handicapped child for work as part of the occupational therapy programme

By du Toit, V

This paper was presented at the Rhodesian Society for the Blind and Physically Handicapped Symposium in 1968.

Du Toit begins by exploring how the definition of the OT profession has changed over the last ten years and explains changes in OT training and education. She talks of the core skills of OT and relates these to the care and treatment of the physically handicapped child, with her goal to prepare the child for work in the future. Du Toit talks with much passion about the potential in such children and the vital role the OT has in nurturing and developing their skills and abilities. The theory of creative ability is immersed in this paper.
