Supporting Sensory Stimulation in Adults

By Fuller, K & Sherwood, W

A report exploring sensory stimulation for levels of creative ability in adult mental health.  Following a study day on multi-modal sensory techniques informed by the theory of creative ability, sensory stimulation was found to have applicability within a medium secure forensic hospital in the UK.  The report briefly considers the levels of self-awareness and sensory needs of patients in conjunction with their level of creative ability, summarised in a table with suggested sensory based tasks. It concludes that awareness of the sensory qualities of activities enables the therapist to make use of the opportunities they offer for increasing sensory stimulation for patients who may be in sensory deprived environments such as hospital.
