Bike Maintenance Workshops were introduced at the Welland Centre, an inpatient mental health unit following identifying there were difficulties engaging male service users in sessions and that there was a lack of male orientated activities on the ward. Sessions were delivered by a local community-based project and were structured using the VdTMoCA treatment principles. Protocols were developed for the most common VdTMoCA levels seen within the service: Self-differentiation, Self-presentation, Passive participation and Imitative participation. Aims of the project were to build service users confidence, to encourage work ability, to encourage social ability, to develop overall skills of service users, to create a more positive and recovery focused environment, to promote stronger links with the community and to create potential opportunities for service users post discharge.
