A literature review identifies occupational needs of community-based people with learning disabilities and indicates a need for a service which enables clients to engage in meaningful activities, communicate their views and develop an occupational identity. The ‘Have Your Say’ programme is outlined and justified as a means to address this need. Critical evaluation methods are proposed, including the Creative Participation Assessment, Goal Attainment Scaling and client feedback, enabling process and outcome focussed evaluation. This has resulted in an innovative programme which is both practicable and adaptable to the needs of this client group.
