Occupational Therapists Faye Baker and Kirsty Hawes attended the 3 day training on The Vona du Toit Model of Creative Ability held at St. Andrews in February 2016 and felt this model may be effective in helping us assess and treat all individuals in a timely manner in the Female mental health medium and low secure setting. It was hoped that this model may be particularly helpful for those that are difficult to engage in treatment and would enable us to focus and target appropriate treatment more effectively. Robinson ward on William Wake House is a Centre of Excellence in the VdTMoCA which has also enabled us to draw on the expertise and experience of Occupational therapists practiced in working with this model. The Lead OT in Female mental health pathway agreed that we could trial this model with 2 patients on Sinclair and Stowe ward, to allow us to familiarize ourselves with the model and practice assessment and implementation of the treatment principles. The model allows Occupational therapists to develop clear treatment plans and can facilitate active engagement in Occupational therapy. The VdTMOCA focuses on ability and recovery for all and enables assessment to start immediately. The poster will outline our initial assessment and interventions with 4 service users on three different levels within the VdTMoCA.
