This article focuses on occupational therapy for young people with severe and profound learning disability.
The aim of the study was to classify the young people according to levels of functioning and to then devise a stimulation programme which could be consistently applied by carers during self-care activities. Twenty-three clients were assessed using the PMDS, classified in to functional levels which informed the sensory stimulation programme. Whilst the PMDS was found to be effective in assessing needs, further resarch is required in to its validity and reliability.
