These are the original paper notes of the keynote address by Robin Joubert at the 3rd International VdTMoCA Conference. The presentation begins with an emotional recollection of the ‘feisty and courageous’ nature of Vona du Toit, whilst battling breast cancer yet continuing to present the model globally before her untimely death.
The presentation embarks on a debate on the use of models in occupational therapy. It compares the model against nine standards, of which, it meets favourably. The presentation then discusses the potential expansion of the model, it’s application in wellness and illness, it’s applicability to socio-political issues and to different cultures and world views.
Joubert (2013) concludes a shift of focus is required, from illness to wellness, from individuals to communities and to the higher levels of creative ability.
