Creativity and inspiration: Learning from OT in Japan

By Sherwood, W

This is an enlightening article on OT practice in Japan using the VdTMoCA. It brings to life the observations and experiences of Wendy Sherwood and Daleen Casteleijn who visited OT services in the Nagasaki region in 2010. The article describes the handling principles used by the therapists, to quote, 'it is about occupational therapists being aware of, and responsive to, a person; the idea of travelling with a life; coming alongside a person and being with but in a way that enables growth - this is what we saw from the therapist.  The article goes on to describe the treatment sessions and types of activities used in large therapy sessions involving up to 30 individuals at one time.
