An attempt to determine the level of creative functioning of children with Autistic tendencies at the Forest Town Cerebral Palsy School and to stimulate them accordingly

Case study based presentation of four children with autistic spectrum disorder treated within a remedial school in South Africa.  Assessment of the children considered volition, handling of tools and materials, emotional response, concept of self, concept of objects and displayed behaviours.  Through the author’s narrative style the treatment approach according to the principles for self-differentiation was described with reference to the specific challenges of the clinical condition.  Clinical reasoning for activities chosen to elicit basic motor function, destructive handling of familiar objects and those with incidentally constructive elements are detailed.  Provides an insight into application of the VdTMoCA in practice through the therapists clinical reasoning and consideration of a variety of different activities.
